U2 Elevation marked the start of designing tour visuals for Punk Films. Marcus Lyall and Adam Smith from Vegetable Vision, introduced us to Catherine Owens (U2’s curator of visual imagery) who was looking for a home to do the design, screen formatting and post production for U2’s Elevation tour.
One of the most memorable pieces was for “Bullet”, which ran during a 5 minute interval mid way through the concert; when the tour kicked off, it was a piece about gun crime in the US, with Charlton Heston narrating his “Credo”, a speech he delivered to the NRA, juxtaposed with haunting images of the Columbine High shootings and young victims of gun crime in the US.
The European leg of the tour required a piece about child soldiers in Africa and later on in the tour they changed the piece in support of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi who was held under house arrest in Burma, and the situation in Kosovo.
